Understanding Punjab’s agrarian, economic, and environmental crises

The recent Morcha in Delhi has brought the survival of Punjab's kisaani (agriculture) to the forefront of our minds around the world. While the recent bills are a devastating blow to Punjab’s future, they are only one link in a long chain of policies imposed by Delhi. Even before this, Punjab has been battling exorbitant amounts of agrarian debt, farmer suicides, environmental degradation and other challenges for years. We will speak with Dr. Gian Singh to explore this context in greater detail. We will discuss the challenges facing Punjab’s agrarian economy and its relationship to the well being and survival of Punjab itself.
